Hello Playwrights and Writers of Performative Texts!
Welcome! We are so glad you’re here. This site is all about building a bridge between Playwrights and Resistors. If you’ve been watching the news and feeling like you want to do something more than march and call, but haven’t quite known how to get your politically inspired plays into the hands of activists, we’re here to help.
The Protest Plays Project wants to share performative texts (short plays, monologues, choreo-poems, etc.) with organizers wishing to employ theatrical tactics in their protests/rallies/community outreach events.
We believe that theatre can touch hearts, open minds, and inspire empathy – and we want to help make that happen in as many places as possible.
We also believe theatre can rattle cages, capture the public’s attention, and unsettle politicians – we want to help make that happen in as many places as possible too.
This site is designed to put plays into the hands of protestors, rally organizers, and activists. If you have a short performative text (plays, monologues, choreo-poems, etc.) which you would like to *donate* to Resistors who wish to employ theatrical tactics in their protests/rallies/community outreach events, please read on.
*We are promoting your plays to Resistors as royalty free for the purpose of incorporating theatrical action into their protest/rally/community outreach events, as long as their presentations are free and open to the public. Now we can’t enforce this “rule” – we can only move forward with hope that those wishing to put your words to work will honor the intentions of this site. If you’re down with that – and we hope you are – please bookmark this page.
We’ll be posting new play calls soon!
